NFL fans once again called on Al Michaels to retire after he lacked excitement on a wild play.

Michaels, 78, was in the Amazon Prime booth for the Black Friday clash between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.

And fans couldn’t believe his lack of excitement after a crazy play to end the first half.

The Jets were trailing 10-6 when they decided to throw up a Hail Mary pass at MetLife Stadium.

Instead, Miami’s Jevon Holland caught the pass and ran it back 99 yards the other way for a Dolphins touchdown.

Viewers were left shocked by the sensational play, while Michaels called it “as crazy as anything you’ll ever see.”

But fans felt the play deserved more enthusiasm from the legendary broadcaster.

One tweeted: “Al Michaels just phoning in his commentary at this point. Time to retire.”

Another posted: “Al Michaels has to retire. This is an amazing play and his play by play call diluted it down to a ho hum run of the mill situation. He’s tired.”

While a third said: “Al Michaels with 0 gas on that epic 99 yard Hail Mary pick 6. Time to retire.”

And another wrote: “Al Michaels needs to retire what a terrible call wasn’t excited at all.”

One more commented: “Classic Al Michaels ruining the call.”

Michaels recently hit back at critics of his commentary and perceived lack of excitement.

Michaels is in the second season of a three-year deal to call Thursday Night Football games on Prime Video.

And he declared to the New York Post: “As far as I’m concerned, I’m doing next year.

“There’s no question about that in my mind.”

Michaels previously called Sunday Night Football games on NBC before his switch to Amazon.

He also worked alongside the late great John Madden on ABC’s coverage of Monday Night Football.

The 78-year-old is reportedly paid up to $1million per game on his current contract.

Michaels currently works with Kirk Herbstreit – who covers college football for ESPN.

He said: “I don’t think I’m a lot different than I have been through the years.

“And if people you know want to say that, ‘Al doesn’t sound as excited.’ Hold on a second, folks. I’m doing the same game I’ve always done.

“I like to build drama. We’re doing television. We’re not doing radio.

“And you’ve heard me, for years and years and years and it is just as simple as that: You build the drama, and the pictures tell the story.”

Speaking about his eventual retirement, Michaels added: “Look when I’m done, it’s the way John Madden was done.

“Two words and a contraction: ‘It’s time.’ I don’t need any parade or that nonsense.”
