THERE’S a new quarterback in Miami.
The Miami Dolphins have signed former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson in free agency.

Wilson agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal that can grow to $10 million with incentives.
The deal is fully guaranteed.
Wilson spent last season with the Denver Broncos after being traded away from the Jets for a sixth-round pick.
He served as a backup quarterback to rookie Bo Nix during the 2024 campaign.
Wilson never figured things out after being drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
He never threw for over 2,400 yards in a season with the Jets and finished his three year career there with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
He only managed 6,293 yards in three years.
Wilson is still young though, being only 25 years old and already being a four-year veteran in the league.
While he isn’t going to Miami to replace Tua Tagovailoa as the team’s starting quarterback, he can provide something the Dolphins desperately need: a competent backup quarterback.
It’s no secret that Tua is perhaps the most fragile quarterback in the NFL.
Concussions have plagued his career, and the former Alabama quarterback missed six games last season because of them.
In Tua’s 11 games played, the Dolphins had a 6-5 record, but in the six games without him they went 2-4.
The team got awful quarterback play during those games, with Skylar Thompson and Tyler Huntley both getting reps.
Huntley played five games in Tua’s place and only managed 829 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Thompson only threw for 187 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in his one game.
NFL important dates 2025 season
March 12 - Free Agency begins
April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin
September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)
November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header
January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season
February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
The formula is pretty simple for Wilson with his new team. He just needs to stay ready for the event of an injury and play safe football.
If the Dolphins had just average quarterback play, it’s possible that they could have caught the Broncos for the last Wild Card spot.
Miami will face some tougher competition within their division this year though, with both the Jets and the New England Patriots putting in work this free agency to improve their teams.
Of course, the Buffalo Bills are always present too as the top dogs of the AFC East.
